Webb Simpson withdrew from the BMW Championship on Tuesday to begin preparing for next week's season finale at East Lake Golf Club, the PGA Tour announced.
"After playing consecutive weeks, Webb is taking the week off in order to be rested for the Tour Championship in Atlanta," a representative of Simpson said.
Simpson currently sits third in the FedEx Cup points list, guaranteeing him a spot in next week's event. However, he could drop on the points list, which would hurt his chance of winning the FedEx Cup due to the Tour Championship's staggered scoring format.
The 35-year-old finished tied for sixth at The Northern Trust last week.
