Thomas enters the Tour Championship ranked third in the FedEx Cup standings thanks to wins at the WGC-Fed Ex St. Jude Championship, the Sentry Tournament of Champions, and the CJ Cup this season.
He's also recorded nine top-10 finishes and is fourth on Tour in strokes gained overall.
Thomas, 27, won the award in 2017 after earning his first major title at the PGA Championship while also winning the FedEx Cup.
Last year the honor was claimed by Rory McIlroy.
