Report: TOUR players continue to discuss possible change to fall schedule

The PGA TOUR's Player Advisory Council has continued talks regarding a possible change to the TOUR schedule that could include a team event series in the fall, GOLF's Sean Zak reports.

The 16-player council came together for a meeting on April 12 and discussed a new layout that would focus on the January to August portion of the schedule.

This proposal would allow the TOUR's top players to take time off without risking cup points and their standings in the FedEx Cup.

This marks the second time this year the council has come together to discuss the idea, according to Zak.

The concept - which Golf Channel's Rex Hoggard initially reported in February - would have the top 50 players from the previous season's points list qualify for a no-cut, three-series team event that would take place during the fall. It would not give out FedEx Cup points.

PGA TOUR officials originally introduced the events, which would take place in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, according to Hoggard.

The regularly scheduled fall events would then act as a series to decide seeding for the players on TOUR who were outside of the top 50 but still qualified for the previous season's playoffs, according to Hoggard.

TOUR members received a monthly newsletter on Monday saying discussions regarding the concept would continue. The next Player Advisory Council meeting will take place in May ahead of the Memorial Tournament, according to Zak.
