Wise feeling 'normal' after hit on head by errant shot at PGA Championship
Aaron Wise said he's feeling fine after being hit in the head by Cameron Smith's errant tee shot during Friday's second round of the PGA Championship, according to ESPN's Mark Schlabach.
Smith was teeing off on the second hole when his shot sliced right and toward the seventh hole, where Wise was playing.
"I was walking down seven, surprised my ball was in the fairway, and then next thing you know, I mean there's a little bit of ringing in my head," said Wise, per Schlabach. "I was down on the fairway. But you know, that happened for maybe 20 seconds, and I was pretty normal after that.
"You know, obviously, there's a lot of adrenaline in the body after something like that happens," Wise added. "I was just trying to calm myself down and get back to being somewhat normal for the last few holes."
Wise finished the round 2-over 72. He's 1-over after 36-holes and inside the current cutline.
Joel Dahmen, who played Friday in a group with Wise, said he didn't fault Smith - who yelled "fore" - for what happened, according to Schlabach. Dahmen added that the combination of the wind, the number of people on the course, and the distance between Smith and Wise would have made it difficult to hear Smith.
Medical staff checked Wise following the round, and he returned home to rest, according to Golf Digest's Dan Rapaport.
