Stenson, Reed share lead after Round 1 of LIV Golf Bedminster
One of LIV Golf's most recent singings wasted no time in making an impact.
Henrik Stenson, whose announcement to join LIV Golf last week came with the end of his Ryder Cup captaincy, shot a 7-under 64 in his debut Friday to grab a share of the lead after the first round of the Bedminster event.
Patrick Reed, playing in his second LIV tournament, joined Stenson at the top of the leaderboard at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster.
Phachara Khongwatmai finished the opening round two strokes back at 5-under, while Dustin Johnson and Carlos Ortiz rounded out the top five at 4-under.
On the team leaderboard, 4 Aces GC grabbed a 1-stroke edge at 11-under over Majesticks GC. Johnson captains 4 Aces, with Reed, Pat Perez, and Talor Gooch making up the rest of the group.
Lee Westwood is captain of the Majesticks, with Stenson, Ian Poulter, and Sam Horsfield making up the remainder of their team.
LIV Golf announced on July 20 that Stenson, Jason Kokrak, and Charles Howell III had joined the series. All three players had a solid first round, with Howell shooting a 68 and Kokrak recording a 69, good enough for a tie for sixth and a tie for 10th, respectively.
It was announced during Friday's first round that Bubba Watson has officially joined Greg Norman's golf league.
LIV Golf tournaments are 54-hole, no-cut events. This week's tournament is the third since the series began, and the winner will receive $4 million.
