DeChambeau hits out at OWGR: They're 'playing a waiting game'

Bryson DeChambeau seems to be wary of the Official World Golf Rankings' decision to hold off on giving points to LIV Golf players.

"When they keep holding it back, they're going to just keep playing a waiting game where we're going to keep dropping down in the rankings to where our points won't ever matter," DeChambeau said Friday, according to Golf Channel's Ryan Lavner.

"That's what they're trying to accomplish, and I hope that people can see right through that rather than believe the lies that they've been told. From my perspective, I think we deserve points."

The Saudi-backed circuit expected to earn points beginning with this week's event in Thailand after forming a "strategic alliance" with the MENA Tour, which the OWGR recognizes. However, the OWGR ruled that it wouldn't award LIV players points for the next two events due to "insufficient" notice, adding that it would need to review the "significant changes" made to the MENA Tour.

Just two events remain on LIV Golf's schedule before the Team Championship in Miami, so any opportunities to garner points on the tour will be pushed to at least 2023.

"They're delaying the inevitable," DeChambeau said. "We've hit every mark in their criteria, so for us not to get points is kind of crazy with having - at least I believe - we have the top players in the world.

"Not all of them, but we certainly believe that there's enough that are the top 50, and we deserve to be getting world-ranking points."

LIV doesn't comply with every aspect of the OWGR's criteria, as there are no cuts and the fields for its invitational events are limited to 48 players.

LIV players also sent a letter to OWGR chairman Peter Dawson asking to be included in the rankings. However, the approval process can take up to a year.
