Report: Next edition of The Match to feature Woods, Rory, Spieth, Thomas
The newest version of The Match is expected to feature four of golf's biggest stars.
Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy are set to go up against good friends Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas in the seventh installment of the event, sources told Joel Beall of Golf Digest.
The Match is reportedly set to be played at Florida's Pelican Golf Club on Dec. 10. It will start at 7 p.m. ET and will span 12 holes under lights, according to Beall.
While Woods has played in previous editions of The Match, this will be the first for the other three major champions.
Since his February 2021 car accident, Woods has rarely played professional golf, making his few appearances in majors. The 46-year-old's last professional start on TOUR was the Open Championship in July where he missed the cut.
Spieth and Thomas have become a familiar, dominant team in recent Ryder and Presidents Cups. They won all four of their matches together in the recent Presidents Cup at Quail Hollow, where the U.S. came out ahead 17.5 to 12.5.
Though McIlroy and Woods don't have a match-play history like their opponents, they recently became partners in a new business venture, TMRW Sports.
