McIlroy withdraws from RBC Heritage
Rory McIlroy has withdrawn from this week's RBC Heritage, the PGA TOUR announced Monday.
Though the reason for his decision hasn't been specified, it comes on the heels of missing the cut at the Masters. His ninth attempt to complete the career Grand Slam fell way short after a 5-over 77 on Friday.
The RBC Heritage is a designated event, which means players inside the top 20 of the Player Impact Program (PIP) are required to play. McIlroy falls within the criteria as the No. 3 ranked golfer in the world, but players are allowed to skip one designated event for personal or professional reasons.
McIlroy wasn't in the field for this season's first designated event, the Sentry Tournament of Champions.
He's played in seven TOUR events this season, earning three top-10 finishes and a victory at the CJ Cup in October.
