TOUR grants special exemption for Tiger at signature events

The PGA TOUR policy board created an exemption for Tiger Woods to play the circuit's eight signature events based on his "exceptional lifetime achievement," commissioner Jay Monahan announced, per Golf Digest's Ryan Herrington.

Woods is one of six players on the policy board, but it's unclear if he voted on the matter.

The 82-time winner has already earned lifetime membership on TOUR, but it doesn't include signature events due to their specific qualification criteria. This season's signature event schedule included the Sentry Tournament of Champions, AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am, the Genesis Invitational, Arnold Palmer Invitational, RBC Heritage, Wells Fargo Championship, the Memorial, and Travelers Championship.

Woods hosts the Genesis Invitational and withdrew from the event due to illness after making his season debut. Woods said in 2023 that he hopes to play one tournament a month but hasn't done so this season. He competed in the Masters in April, then missed the cut at both the PGA Championship and last week's U.S. Open.

The 15-time major winner already announced that July's Open Championship at Royal Troon will be his final event of the year.

Woods, 48, has played nine official TOUR events since a car accident in 2021. His most recent win came at the 2019 ZOZO Championship.
