Thompson sets tournament record at John Deere Classic for 1st TOUR win
Davis Thompson locked up his first career PGA TOUR victory in convincing fashion Sunday, firing a final-round 64 to win the John Deere Classic by four strokes.
He also set a tournament record of 28-under, surpassing Michael Kim's 2018 mark of 27-under. The victory secured Thompson's spot at the Open Championship in two weeks, as well as the 2025 Masters.

Thompson was making his 63rd start. He'd previously racked up five top-10 finishes in his career.
The 25-year-old enjoyed a particularly dominant front nine Sunday, logging six birdies and no bogeys.
He finished his round with a two-foot putt for par after his birdie attempt fell short.

"I just tried to stay present all day, and when that putt finally went in, just a big sigh of relief," an emotional Thompson said.
"I've been working hard this year," he continued. "It was OK for a while, then I kinda got going this last month. I played well last week and tried to keep it rolling this week."
Thompson tied for ninth at the U.S. Open in mid-June and was part of a four-way tie for second place at last week's Rocket Mortgage Classic.
Luke Clanton also made some headlines at TPC Deere Run this weekend. The 20-year-old became the first amateur to finish in the top 10 in back-to-back tournaments since 1958. He tied for 10th at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.
Ben Griffin, meanwhile, was in pursuit of a 59 on Sunday. He needed to post a minus-two in his last two holes to hit golf's magic number, but he was ultimately undone by a bogey on the 17th.
