Report: Talks ongoing to make TOUR Championship bracket-style event
The PGA TOUR is in advanced discussions to make the TOUR Championship a bracket-style format, sources told The Athletic's Gabby Herzig.
Changes could be implemented as early as this season if momentum continues in negotiations, Herzig notes.
The TOUR Championship serves as the season finale and third of three playoff events. The current format was designed in 2019 and gives players a starting score based on the season-long points ranking system. Many of the world's top players have criticized the tournament's configuration, including defending champion Scottie Scheffler.
Both match play and stroke play are being discussed as options for the potential bracket-style event. The TOUR removed the WGC-Match Play Championship from the schedule last year after it ran from 1999-2023.
The 30-man field and tournament dates for this year wouldn't be changed if the bracket system is implemented.
