PGA TOUR moves Genesis Invitational from Riviera due to L.A. fires
The PGA TOUR announced February's Genesis Invitational will be moved from Riviera Country Club because of recent wildfires around Los Angeles.
"The PGA TOUR’s focus continues to be on the safety and well-being of those affected by the unprecedented natural disaster in Greater Los Angeles," the TOUR announced Thursday in a statement. "We are grateful for the life-saving efforts of first responders and the tireless work being done to put an end to the tragic wildfires."
The tournament will still be played Feb. 13-16, and a new venue will be announced in the coming days.
The Genesis Invitational is a signature event on the PGA TOUR and is annually hosted by Tiger Woods.
Riviera is in wildfire-ravaged Pacific Palisades in west L.A., and is one of the most famous venues in the sport. The Genesis Invitational, previously known as the L.A. Open, has been held at Riviera for the past 62 years.
