Rory McIlroy will never, ever be confused for a gentleman.

McIlroy called off his engagement to Caroline Wozniacki last week, and details have emerged over how he went about it, via The New York Times:

McIlroy publicly announced the end of the engagement, which he said he called off because he realized after the wedding invitations had been sent out that he was not yet ready for marriage, on May 21 after breaking the news to her over the phone.

The phone. The phone!

Britain's The Times has more, and it gets worse: the conversation lasted all of three minutes, and Wozniacki thought it was a joke.

Sure, they're busy professional athletes with demanding schedules, but Wozniacki deserved better. We don't know her personally, but we know she deserved better.

After their breakup, McIlroy won the European Tour's BMW PGA Championship, while Wozniacki was booted from the French Open in the first round.

There's no justice.
