Garcia atop leaderboard at BMW Championship

Cherry Hills Village, CO - Looking for his first victory on the PGA Tour since 2012, Sergio Garcia shot a second-round, 6-under 64 on Friday to take the outright lead heading into the weekend at the BMW Championship.

Garcia, who has not won on tour since hoisting the trophy at the 2012 Wyndham Open, finished 36 holes at 8-under 132 and he holds a 1-shot lead over Ryan Palmer. Garcia won the Qatar Masters on the European Tour earlier this season.

Despite being right in the thick of things in many tournaments down the stretch of this season, Garcia has not been able to break through. He finished tied for second at both the Open and the Travelers Championship. Garcia was also alone as the runner-up at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.

Palmer also shot a 64 on Friday to jump into sole possession of second place at 7-under 133 at Cherry Hills Country Club. He is looking for his fourth win on tour.

World No. 1 Rory McIlroy, who held a share of the first-round lead with Jordan Spieth and Gary Woodland, carded his second consecutive 67 and he is tied with one of the Deutsche Bank Championship runner-ups Billy Horschel (66) at 6- under 134.

McIlroy, currently No. 2 in the FedExCup playoffs, beat out Garcia for the Open and WGC-Bridgestone Invitational titles this season.

Chris Kirk (70), the Deutsche Bank Championship winner who is currently No. 1 in the FedExCup playoffs, is nine shots back at 1-over 141. The Barclays winner Hunter Mahan (70) is well off the pace at 5-over 145.
