The Players Championship begins this Thursday at Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
The Pete Dye-designed course has a knack for rewarding golfers who play strategically, and this year will be no different.
The historic, exciting and stadium-styled course, deemed one of the hardest to play in America, has seen everything from fantastically close finishes to seagulls swooping balls on the green. Just like each previous year, this week will be great for the athletes, spectators and viewers alike.
Aside from the usual golfers to look out for - Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth - there's always the potential for a few dark horses to come away $1.8 million richer. Here are five previous TPC Sawgrass champions who could be looking to repeat their previous success this week.
Tiger Woods

You can never count out Tiger. Despite a wrist injury sustained at Augusta, Woods tweeted that he's looking forward to competing in the tournament at TPC Sawgrass, where he won in 2001 and 2013. Back from a short break since the Masters, and now ranked 125th in the world, Tiger could make a push this week in Florida and become the only golfer on this list to be a three-time TPC Sawgrass winner.
Sergio Garcia

Garcia is coming off an undesirable finish in last week's WGC-Cadillac Match Play, where he tied for 34th. At last year's Players, Garcia nearly won the tournament, but was unable to surpass Germany's Martin Kaymer in the final round. Already with a victory in 2008 by way of a playoff, Garcia could attain his second TPC Sawgrass win after coming up short last year.
Adam Scott

In 2004 at the mere age of 23, Scott captured the golf world's attention by winning at TPC Sawgrass, beating out Ireland's Padraig Harrington by one stroke. The former Masters champion started the season strong, but has failed to crack the top 30 in his last four events. He is looking to become a two-time winner at the Players.
Martin Kaymer

Kaymer has had a tough time on tour this season. With four missed cuts, and just one top-10 finish in tournament play, Kaymer will look to rejuvenate himself at the Players, one of two tournaments he won last year. If Kaymer can open the first round by shooting anywhere near a 63 - as he did last year - while finishing the final rounds in consistent fashion, he could pull out another victory on the challenging course.
Henrik Stenson

Stenson, the current world No. 3, finished tied for 34th in last year's Players Championship. However, with most of the recent discussion in the realm of golf focused on rising stars McIlroy and Spieth (ranked No. 1 and No. 2, respectively), the 2009 champion at TPC Sawgrass will undoubtedly be looking to join the conversation by becoming yet another two-time champion.
