Spieth signs reportedly massive endorsement deal with Coca-Cola
Thirsty? Jordan Spieth's got you.
The top-ranked golfer on the planet inked a multi-year endorsement deal with Coca-Cola, writes ESPN's Darren Rovell, "one of the biggest the company has made with an athlete."
Spieth said the following in a statement:
Coca-Cola has always been associated with iconic sporting events and some of the world's greatest athletes, so this is an incredibly cool opportunity for me. As a brand ambassador, I look forward to growing awareness for the sport of golf globally and engaging with fans in exciting new ways.
Rovell's source tells him the deal rivals that of LeBron James' (Sprite, a Coca-Cola product), actress Jennifer Aniston's (Smartwater), and pop star Taylor Swift's (Diet Coke).
Spieth exploded in 2015, winning five tournaments including the Masters and U.S. Open. He finished fourth at The Open, second at the PGA Championship, and won the Coca-Cola sponsored Tour championship. He kicked off 2016 by winning the Hyundai Tournament of Champions.
Spieth's agent Jay Danzi also commented on the deal:
Coca-Cola is one of the most powerful global brands, and we could not be more excited for Jordan to be a spokesperson. We had interest from companies of all shapes and sizes in the beverage category, but this made the most sense to us based on the brand synergies with both Jordan and his foundation, Coke's global platform, and it's activation strategy.
Spieth - who reportedly made $53 million in 2015 - also has an endorsement deal with AT&T, so he's making free phone calls in addition to drinking free Coke.
