Victoire's Tabin suspended 2 games, Charge's Boyd banned for 1
Montreal Victoire defender Kati Tabin has been suspended for two games, and Ottawa Charge rearguard Zoe Boyd earned a one-game ban, the PWHL announced Monday.
Tabin was punished for an illegal check to the head of New York Sirens forward Jessie Eldridge during the first period of Montreal's 1-0 loss Tuesday. She was assessed a major penalty and a game misconduct for her actions.
The league found that Tabin delivered a "high and forceful check" while extending her elbow "unnecessarily outward, making Eldridge's head the main point of contact on a play where such contact to the head was avoidable."
This was the first suspension of Tabin's 51-game PWHL career. She's chipped in with four goals and seven points in 27 outings for Montreal this campaign.
Boyd, meanwhile, is sitting for one game because of a check to the head of Boston Fleet forward Alina Muller during the final frame of the Charge's 4-0 victory Wednesday.
Muller earned a roughing penalty after laying a hit on Charge forward Alexa Vasko. Boyd took exception to the hit and delivered a "high, forceful, two-handed cross-check that makes direct contact with Muller's head." She was given a major penalty and a game misconduct.
Boyd had never previously been fined or suspended in her 37-game PWHL career. She's amassed three assists in 21 contests for Ottawa this season.
