Ray Lewis donates original Miami turnover chain for COVID-19 relief
NFL Hall of Famer and former University of Miami linebacker Ray Lewis donated one of the Hurricanes' two original turnover chains to help raise money for COVID-19 relief.
The chain will be auctioned off along with several other Hurricanes-related items for the All In Challenge - a fundraiser started by Philadelphia 76ers co-owner Michael Rubin to provide food to those in need.
The winner of the auction will also be flown to Miami along with two guests for the Hurricanes' Nov. 7 game against Florida State, where they'll be treated to a steakhouse dinner with Lewis and get to join him on the field.
"You're going to be able to run out of the tunnel, come out of the smoke," Lewis said. "One of the most iconic memories of all time."
Miami's turnover chain was first introduced in 2017 and has been upgraded each year since. The original chain was comprised of 900 orange and green sapphire stones attached to a 2.5-kilogram, 10-karat gold chain.
