STORRS, Conn. (AP) — UConn coach Dan Hurley has turned to a familiar face to fill an assistant coaching vacancy.

Luke Murray, who has been a coach for 13 years, including two stints under Hurley at Wagner and Rhode Island, will join Hurley’s UConn staff, the school announced Monday.

Murray, who is the son of actor Bill Murray, spent the last three seasons as an assistant at Louisville before leaving the school in a shakeup of the coaching staff there.

"Luke has a high level of experience as a coach and as a recruiter," Hurley said. "He is someone I have a lot of confidence in because of the familiarity I have had with him at two other programs. He has an extremely smart and talented basketball mind and has the commitment level and passion that we need to elevate this program to the championship level where UConn should be."

Murray replaces Kevin Freeman, who is taking an administrative job in UConn's athletic department.

Murray, 36, served as Chris Mack's recruiting coordinator at Louisville and was an assistant under Mack for three seasons at Xavier.

He's no stranger to Connecticut, having graduated from Fairfield University in 2007 and served as director of basketball operations at Quinnipiac University during the 2007-08 season under current UConn assistant Tom Moore.

“I’m tremendously excited to reunite with Coach Hurley,” Murray said. “He’s a mentor of mine and somebody I hold in incredibly high regard.”
