The San Francisco Giants and left-handed starter Carlos Rodon agreed to a two-year, $44-million deal that includes an opt-out after the first season, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan.

Rodon, 29, is coming off a tremendous breakout campaign after being non-tendered by the Chicago White Sox last winter. Despite hitting free agency, Rodon re-signed with the White Sox to a one-year, $3-million contract and authored a sterling 2.37 ERA and 2.65 FIP. He also earned his first All-Star appearance and finished fifth in AL Cy Young voting.

Although posting terrific rate statistics, Rodon was held to 132 2/3 innings over 24 starts. He landed on the injured list for left shoulder fatigue in August and missed the remainder of the season.

The left-hander spoke to the "Damon and Ratto" radio show in San Francisco on Friday and admitted San Francisco made its intentions known quickly after the end of the lockout.

"The Giants were fairly aggressive," Rodon said. "They just went right to it, kind of met my needs and what I wanted."

Rodon was complimentary of the organization and noted last year's successful campaign left a positive impression on him.

"The Giants won over 100 games last year," he said. "It's hard to say no to that, a winning team, a winning organization. It was a good fit for me."

San Francisco is coming off a franchise-record 107-win campaign and has attempted to maintain a dominant rotation by re-signing Anthony DeSclafani and Alex Wood. With up-and-coming stud Logan Webb leading the rotation, Rodon will likely slot in at No. 2 and fill in for the departed Kevin Gausman, who signed with the Toronto Blue Jays before the lockout.
