Magic: 'Hard pill to swallow' for Kareem when LeBron becomes all-time scorer
Magic Johnson doesn't think Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is happy about the prospect of giving up his title as the NBA's all-time leading scorer.
Johnson, who played with Abdul-Jabbar for 10 seasons on the Los Angeles Lakers, was asked during an appearance on "Club Shay Shay" how he thinks his former teammate will handle LeBron James passing him on the all-time scoring list.
"I don't think well," Johnson replied. "I mean, let's just be honest. If I got to say it, we got to be honest. And the fact that it's a dude playing for the Lakers, too. It's a dude playing in L.A.
"I think it'll be a hard pill to swallow. ... I think he thought he was gonna have (the record) forever."
James is sitting at 37,144 career points as of Tuesday, 1,244 points away from breaking Abdul-Jabbar's record.
James stated earlier this month that he has "no relationship" with Abdul-Jabbar, who was critical of the Lakers star in the past over some of his actions and comments. Johnson believes the two can overcome their differences, though.
"I think one day that's gonna happen," Johnson said of the two forming a relationship. "If I can play a part in that, I would love to do that. I think let him pass him first. Let that happen and let that soak in for a minute, and then put the two men together because they gonna find out they're similar."
