Marlins president of baseball operations is realistic about his team's prospects for the remainder of the season after Miami traded Luis Arraez to the San Diego Padres.

"We are unlikely to make the playoffs this year," Bendix said Saturday, according to Craig Mish of the Miami Herald.

The Marlins have struggled out of the gates, posting a 9-25 record. Bendix dealt Arraez to the Padres in a five-player trade Friday night.

"It was an incredibly difficult decision," Bendix told Bally Sports' Kelly Saco. "He's not just a great player, but he's a phenomenal person, a phenomenal leader. ... Ultimately, it felt like this was the right decision for the Marlins organization to help get us to the place we need to be."

Bendix added that he made the trade this early in the season because he felt the Padres' offer was too good to pass up.

The Marlins acquired outfielders Dillon Head and Jakob Marsee, reliever Woo-Suk Go, and first baseman Nathan Martorella in the deal.
