The Toronto Blue Jays' miserable 2024 season continues to get worse.

Manager John Schneider announced Saturday that top pitching prospect Ricky Tiedemann will undergo Tommy John surgery July 30, according to Sportsnet's Shi Davidi.

Tiedemann had been dealing with forearm tightness and ulnar nerve inflammation while pitching in the minors this season and recently underwent second and third opinions on how to treat his injuries.

The 21-year-old posted a 6.00 ERA over nine innings with Triple-A Buffalo this season.

The Blue Jays reside in the AL East basement, and things in the minor leagues haven't gone much better this season. In addition to Tiedemann needing elbow surgery, the organization's No. 2 prospect, Orelvis Martinez, was suspended 80 games, while No. 4 prospect Brandon Barriera underwent a hybrid Tommy John surgery and internal brace procedure in April.

Tiedemann was a potential option to help Toronto's rotation in the final months of the season but now likely won't be available until 2026.
