The Chicago Cubs released right-handed reliever Héctor Neris on Tuesday.

Neris saved 17 games to go along with a 3.89 ERA and 9.4 K/9 across 44 innings pitched.

The 35-year-old signed a one-year, $9-million contract with the Cubs during the offseason that included a $9-million option in 2025. That option would've converted into a player option had Neris appeared in 60 games or finished 45 contests. Cutting ties with Neris prevented that threshold from being reached.

Neris has been a solid high-leverage reliever throughout his career, posting a 3.29 ERA and amassing 106 saves in 592 career outings.

He'll be eligible to participate in the postseason if he signs with a club and is added to its 40-man roster before Aug. 31.

The Cubs called up right-hander Jack Neely to take Neris' place on the roster. Chicago acquired him from the New York Yankees as part of a deal for Mark Leiter Jr. in July.
