Indiana quarterback Kurtis Rourke is out indefinitely with a thumb injury, the team announced Sunday.

The 23-year-old isn't expected to play next weekend against Washington but should return at some point this season, according to Pete Thamel of ESPN.

Rourke didn't play in Saturday's second half after getting hit on a pass in the second quarter. He completed 17 of 21 passes for 189 yards and one touchdown before exiting.

Backup signal-caller Tayven Jackson replaced Rourke in the second half and completed seven of eight throws for 98 yards and two scores. The sophomore started five games for Indiana in 2023.

"I thought he went in there and did a good job. The team had confidence, and I was proud of him," head coach Curt Cignetti said postgame, per Max Olsen of ESPN.

Rourke is a Heisman candidate and a key reason the Hoosiers are 7-0 and off to their best start since 1967.
