Rex Ryan: I'd coach Jets again 'in a second'

It wouldn't take much to convince Rex Ryan to coach the New York Jets again.

Ryan, who served as head coach of the Jets from 2009 to 2014, told ESPN New York's "DiPietro & Rothenberg" show Monday that he would relish the opportunity to return to the team.

"I'd do it in a second because I am a New York Jet," Ryan said. "I absolutely would. But I'm not here to politic ... and it seems like it because I tell the damn truth, and I speak as a fan of this football team and this community. That's why it makes sense. So yeah, we'll see.

"I hope I get an opportunity to interview for it. That's absolutely a given. I hope I get that opportunity."

In his six seasons in New York, Ryan posted a 46-60 record and led the Jets to back-to-back AFC Championship Games. They haven't advanced to the playoffs since.

New York fired Robert Saleh earlier this month after a 2-3 start to the season, naming Jeff Ulbrich its interim head coach.
