Philadelphia 76ers rookie guard Jared McCain is out indefinitely after suffering a torn meniscus in Friday's 121-107 loss to the Indiana Pacers, the team announced Saturday.

McCain's injury will require surgery. The Rookie of the Year contender has averaged 15.3 points, 2.6 assists, and 2.4 rebounds in 23 games.

The 20-year-old has been one of the few bright spots in an otherwise disastrous season for Philadelphia. The Sixers stand 12th in the Eastern Conference with a 7-16 record, largely because of consistent injuries to Joel Embiid and Paul George.

Embiid has missed 17 games this campaign. He's dealt with swelling in his knee and served a three-game suspension for pushing a columnist. He also suffered a sinus fracture in the loss to the Pacers. In just six games this season, he's averaged 20.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 3.8 assists.

George has been absent for 10 contests, also because of a knee injury. The 34-year-old is averaging 15.9 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 2.3 stocks (steals and blocks) in his first season with the franchise.

The Sixers drafted McCain with the 16th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. He spent one season at Duke.
