The Texas Rangers traded first baseman Nathaniel Lowe to the Washington Nationals for left-handed reliever Robert Garcia, the teams announced.

Lowe slashed .265/.361/.401 with 16 home runs and 69 RBIs in 140 games for the Rangers last season.

The 29-year-old spent the past four campaigns with the Rangers, posting a .791 OPS (121 OPS+) in 615 games. Lowe won the World Series and a Gold Glove with the Rangers in 2023 and was also named a Silver Slugger in 2022.

The left-handed hitting Lowe was projected to earn $10.7 million in arbitration this season.

Jake Burger, acquired in a Dec. 11 trade with the Miami Marlins, could take over first base for the Rangers after he started 69 games at the position last season.

Garcia, 28, appeared in a career-high 72 games in 2024.

He posted a 2.38 FIP and 11.3 K/9 in 59 2/3 innings last season. The southpaw also ranked 90th percentile or better in several pitching categories, including strikeout percentage, chase percentage, barrel percentage, and hard-hit percentage, according to Baseball Savant.

Garcia earned $742,800 in 2024 and isn't arbitration-eligible for the first time until 2027.
