Report: Ronaldo to extend Al-Nassr contract until 2026

Cristiano Ronaldo is staying in Saudi Arabia.

The Portuguese megastar reached an agreement with Al-Nassr to extend his contract until 2026, a source within the club told Agence France-Presse. His current deal is set to expire in June. The one-year extension reportedly hasn't been signed yet but will be confirmed in the coming days.

Ronaldo, who turned 40 last week, said last year that he'll "most likely" finish his career with Al-Nassr, the team he joined in January 2023 after ending his second spell with Manchester United.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner has scored 82 goals in 90 matches with the Riyadh-based side, where he's reportedly earning around €200 million per season, including commercial deals.

Ronaldo's move to the Middle East opened the floodgates for a cavalcade of notable players, many also in the twilight of their respective careers, to follow him to the Saudi Pro League, which continues to spend freely in an attempt to establish itself as a growing force in global soccer.

Saudi Arabia was awarded the 2034 World Cup in December, strengthening its ties with FIFA and president Gianni Infantino.

Though a World Cup title has likely eluded him, Ronaldo, the all-time leading scorer in men's international soccer, continues to chase records. He's been open about his desire to reach the 1,000-goal mark before retiring; he currently has 924 career goals in official matches for club and country.

Ronaldo is still seeking his first major trophy with Al-Nassr. The club has yet to win a Saudi or continental title since his arrival, lifting only the Arab Club Champions Cup in that time.
