Washington Capitals netminder Logan Thompson left Wednesday's divisional clash against the Carolina Hurricanes due to an upper-body injury and was unable to return.

Thompson allowed three goals on 12 shots in the first period before Charlie Lindgren replaced him. Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery said Thompson will be evaluated when the team returns home, according to NHL.com's Tom Gulitti.

Washington plays the Chicago Blackhawks in D.C. on Friday.

Thompson entered the game 31-5-6 on the season with a .912 save percentage. He signed a six-year contract extension in January during a strong first campaign with the Capitals, who acquired him from the Vegas Golden Knights over the offseason.

The Capitals have seven games remaining and own a nine-point lead in the Metropolitan Division.
