USWNT to face Jamaica in June friendly after China withdrawal

The United States women's football team will face Jamaica in an international friendly in June after China withdrew from a previously agreed fixture, US Soccer said on Friday.

China had originally agreed to back-to-back friendlies against the USA, one in St. Paul, Minnesota on May 31 and another in St. Louis, Missouri on June 3.

However US Soccer said the Chinese Football Association has now withdrawn from the second planned fixture. No reason was given for the Chinese withdrawal from the June 3 game.

The match against Jamaica will be just the sixth time the USA have faced the fast-improving "Reggae Girlz", who reached the last 16 at the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup.

The Americans last faced Jamaica in 2022 in the CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup in Monterrey, Mexico, with the four-time World Champions winning 5-0.

The June 3 fixture is planned to be a send-off game for US legend Becky Sauerbrunn, who announced her retirement last December.
