The Washington Nationals announced Wednesday that they placed infielder Paul DeJong on the 10-day injured list with a fractured nose after he took a pitch to the face in Tuesday night's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

DeJong left the contest in the sixth inning after being hit by Pirates right-hander Mitch Keller.

The pitch from Keller was a 93-mph fastball. DeJong was bloodied and appeared to have a cut underneath his left eye. The training staff immediately helped him off the field and down the tunnel into the clubhouse.

"He got hit pretty solid in the face," Nationals manager Dave Martinez said postgame, according to MLB.com's Jessica Camerato. "Right now, he's getting a CT scan. I don't know much more than that right now. Hopefully, he's OK. I know he started bleeding pretty good there. So we'll see what the results are."

The Nationals recalled infielder Trey Lipscomb in a corresponding move.

DeJong is in his first season with the Nationals after signing a one-year, $1-million contract in February. The 31-year-old is hitting .204 with a pair of RBIs, two stolen bases, and three runs scored in 54 at-bats.
