The Toronto Blue Jays signed pitcher Spencer Turnbull to a major-league deal, a source told Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith.

Financial details of the contract aren't yet known.

Toronto further bolstered its pitching depth by also signing José Ureña, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

Turnbull, 32, worked to a 2.65 ERA and 1.05 WHIP with 58 strikeouts across 54 1/3 innings pitched with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2024. Seven of his 17 appearances were starts.

Ureña allowed five earned runs in one appearance for the New York Mets this season before being designated for assignment. He recorded a 3.80 ERA and 1.32 WHIP in 109 innings with the Texas Rangers in 2024.

Both righties are candidates to join the Blue Jays starting rotation, which is still without Max Scherzer. Toronto has deployed Easton Lucas and Yariel Rodríguez in his absence to mixed results.

Turnbull owns a career 4.26 ERA (106 ERA+) across six MLB campaigns but has not thrown more than 56 2/3 innings in a season since 2019.

Ureña holds a 4.80 ERA (85 ERA+) across 951 1/3 career innings pitched.
