Diamondbacks bring back purple with new City Connect uniforms

The Arizona Diamondbacks unveiled their newest City Connect uniforms Monday.

The jerseys maintain the "Serpientes" branding of the club's first City Connect while reintroducing the iconic purple-teal color combination made famous by their late 1990s and early 2000s squads.

The new jerseys feature an embroidered "1998" jock tag in an outline of Arizona that pays homage to the year the club was established.

“I think they're pretty sick," shortstop Geraldo Perdomo said of the new threads, according to Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic. "They're beautiful.

"It's like the old purple and teal that we had in 2001. Those are the best uniforms we've had so far. I think (purple) has been a part of the organization's history. It's our identity. And I like the 'Serpientes.'"

Arizona stopped wearing purple after the 2006 season.

The Diamondbacks debuted their original Serpientes City Connect uniforms, which were a desert sand color, in 2021.

"I like the purple. I like the colors of the uniform, but for a lot of people I know who have grown up in Phoenix and Scottsdale, everything about the Diamondbacks to them is purple," starting pitcher Zac Gallen said.

"For them to kind of take what the people from the community wanted and pay tribute to the history of what the purple uniforms have meant to the organization I think is really cool. I think they did a really good job."
