Cora shoulders blame after Red Sox loss: 'We're not getting better'
Alex Cora was disappointed in himself after the Boston Red Sox lost 4-3 to the Los Angeles Angels.
"We keep making the same mistakes. We're not getting better," Cora told reporters after the game, according to NESN.
"At one point, it has to be on me, I guess, right? I'm the manager, so I've got to keep pushing them to get better. They're not getting better."
The Red Sox have lost back-to-back games against an Angels club that entered the series six games below .500. Boston has also lost eight of its last ten contests, and Tuesday's loss was its 17th by one run.
Cora believes there's more to the team's lack of success than losing close games. The Red Sox lead the majors with 53 errors and went 1-for-13 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base in the loss to the Angels.
"You get frustrated, but at one point, it's like, 'OK, what are we gonna do about it? What's gonna change?’ Because we keep doing the same thing, same thing." Cora said.
"Are we going to keep talking about one-run losses? We have what, 17, 18, whatever it is. It's the same thing, same thing. Is it effort? Preparation, attention to detail? I have no idea. I watched that game and was like, 'Wow, this is real.' It's frustrating."
The Red Sox entered the season with playoff aspirations after adding Garrett Crochet and Alex Bregman in the offseason, but sit fourth in the AL East with a 29-34 record.
