The New York Rangers are transferring the 12th overall pick in Friday's draft to the Pittsburgh Penguins to complete the conditions of this past season's J.T. Miller trade between the Rangers and Vancouver Canucks, according to The Athletic's Chris Johnston.

The Canucks dealt the first-rounder they acquired from the Rangers to the Penguins to acquire defenseman Marcus Pettersson. Since the pick was initially New York's, the Blueshirts had the option to give Pittsburgh this year's selection or an unprotected first-rounder in 2026.

The Rangers view their 2026 first-rounder as a valuable trade chip at next season's deadline, Johnston adds. New York missed the playoffs this season after winning the Presidents' Trophy and reaching the Eastern Conference Final in 2024.

The Penguins now hold the 11th and 12th overall picks in this year's draft and 11 selections overall.

The draft is scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m. ET.
