The San Jose Sharks selected goaltender Joshua Ravensbergen with the 30th pick in the 2025 NHL Draft on Friday.

Ravensbergen is the second goalie off the board after the Columbus Blue Jackets took Pyotr Andreyanov with the 20th pick. He's also just the second Canadian goaltender to be drafted in Round 1 in the last 13 years, joining Sebastian Cossa.

Ravensbergen went undrafted in the 2021 WHL Bantam Draft but immediately impressed upon joining the Prince George Cougars in 2023. He notched six shutouts in 38 games in 2023-24. In the playoffs that season, he authored a sparkling .931 save percentage across a dozen games, adding three more clean sheets.

His play fell off a bit as he battled some injuries in 2024-25, but Ravensbergen boasts No. 1 goalie traits with his 6-foot-5 frame and impressive athleticism.

What they're saying

"He's very athletic with the quick twitch in his lower half of a 6-foot-1 goaltender," The Athletic's Corey Pronman wrote. "He anticipates the play well and is quite aggressive in challenging shooters with his big frame. He can be a bit overaggressive and chaotic in net, bouncing/flopping around too much. His reads do concern me at times, but for the most part, he's in the right place. He can make a lot of tough saves and does so in a way that makes him look like a potential starting goaltender in the NHL."

"Late birthday, late developer, he came out of nowhere last year, and was brilliant leading Prince George to a conference final," Sportsnet's Sam Cosentino wrote. "He wasn't a surprise to anyone this year, but his numbers reflected the fact the team in front of him wasn't as strong this season."
