Alexandre Pantoja submitted Kai Kara-France with a rear-naked choke at the 1:55 mark of the third round to retain the UFC flyweight championship in the UFC 317 co-main event Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

With the victory, Pantoja broke the record for most wins (14), finishes (eight), and submissions (six) in UFC flyweight history.

Pantoja made it look easy in his latest title defense, relying on his elite-level Brazilian jiu-jitsu to outclass Kara-France from start to finish.

The 35-year-old got Kara-France to the ground less than a minute into the third round. He took the challenger's back, applied a body triangle, and then suddenly attempted a rear-naked choke. Kara-France tried to survive, but Pantoja locked it in and forced the tap.

Pantoja has now defended the 125-pound title four times since becoming champion in July 2023. He's riding an eight-fight winning streak and hasn't lost since July 2020.

After the victory, Pantoja squared off with Joshua Van, who defeated No. 1-ranked flyweight Brandon Royval earlier on the UFC 317 main card to presumably earn the next title shot.

Kara-France, the No. 4-ranked flyweight, came up short in his first undisputed title shot. The 32-year-old New Zealander is 1-3 in his last four Octagon appearances.
