Wide receiver Jauan Jennings is asking the San Francisco 49ers for a new contract or a trade, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Jennings is scheduled to earn $7.5 million in the final year of his current deal.

The 28-year-old wideout approached the Niners about his request, but Schefter reports that little progress has been made. Jennings plans to ask for a trade to a team willing to pay him if the two sides are unable to agree to a new deal before the start of the 49ers' training camp, which begins July 23.

Jennings doesn't intend to be a holdout on July 22, when veteran players are scheduled to report to camp. He signed a two-year extension with San Francisco in 2024, which the team believes is a fair deal, according to Schefter.

The Niners have rewarded several key members of their roster with new deals this offseason, including Brock Purdy, George Kittle, and Fred Warner. San Francisco is dealing with a disgruntled wideout for a second consecutive year after Brandon Aiyuk voiced his desire for an extension in 2024. Aiyuk ultimately inked a four-year, $120-million extension.

Jennings finished second on the 49ers with 77 catches for 975 yards and six touchdowns last season. The Tennessee product is in line to see more targets after Deebo Samuel was traded to the Washington Commanders, and with Aiyuk recovering from a torn ACL.
