South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer didn't put much stock into quarterback LaNorris Sellers possibly leaving the program after his breakout 2024 season.

Sellers' father recently told The Athletic's Bruce Feldman that other schools reached out to his son about transferring, with the biggest offer being a two-year deal worth $8 million in NIL compensation. Despite receiving attention from other programs, the redshirt sophomore decided to return to the Gamecocks.

"He's coming off the season as a starting quarterback where he wins nine games," Beamer said Monday, according to The State's Michael Sauls. "He's playing as well as any quarterback in the country at the end of last season. He's coming back on a really good team, and he loves being here.

"So, it's like, why the hell would you leave?"

Beamer added that he hadn't had any in-depth conversation with Sellers about his future, saying: "Maybe I was naive, but I knew he loved it here."

Sellers said Monday that money isn't his only motivation for staying with the Gamecocks following last year's productive campaign.

"Anything I need is at South Carolina. There's no point in me going somewhere and starting over," Sellers said.

The 6-foot-3, 240-pound signal-caller has witnessed his profile rise since passing for 2,534 yards, rushing for 674 yards, and accounting for 25 total touchdowns in his first year as a starter in 2024. Beamer is considered a preseason Heisman Trophy candidate and is rated as one of the top eligible quarterbacks ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft.

South Carolina kicks off its season against Virginia Tech at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Aug. 31.
