The San Francisco Giants traded outfielder Mike Yastrzemski to the Kansas City Royals for minor-league pitcher Yunior Marte, the teams announced Thursday.

Yastrzemski, the grandson of Hall of Famer Carl Yastrzemski, is earning $9.25 million this season and will be a free agent at the end of the campaign.

The 34-year-old had been a staple of San Francisco's outfield since reaching the majors in 2019, primarily splitting time between right and center. Bolstered by his lifetime .802 OPS against southpaws, Yastrzemski could form the left-handed half of a platoon with the recently acquired Randal Grichuk in Kansas City.

However, Yastrzemski is having a down year offensively, hitting .231/.330/.355 with eight homers and 28 RBIs over 96 games this season.

Marte, a 21-year-old right-hander, owns a 2.74 ERA and 0.99 WHIP with 79 strikeouts and 20 walks over 19 starts at Low-A Columbia in 2025.
