Defenseman Tyson Barrie retired from the NHL on Monday, ending a 14-year career, the league confirmed.

The 34-year-old suited up for five franchises but is likely best remembered for his eight-year stint with the Colorado Avalanche, who selected him in the third round (64th overall) in the 2009 draft. Of his 822 career regular-season games, he played 484 with Colorado, registering 307 points for the Avs.

One of the league's top offensive-minded blue-liners in his prime, he led Avalanche defensemen in scoring in six separate seasons, including back-to-back 14-goal campaigns in 2017-18 and 2018-19.

Barrie also made stops with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers, Nashville Predators, and, most recently, the Calgary Flames. He played 13 games with the latter last season while also splitting time with their AHL affiliate.

The Victoria, British Columbia, native appeared in 47 career playoff contests, the bulk of them with the Avalanche (21) and Oilers (20).
