Sacramento pursuing bid for 2022 or 2023 NBA All-Star Game
Sacramento city council on Tuesday passed a motion supporting the Kings' bid to pursue hosting the 2022 or 2023 NBA All-Star weekend.
Next year's event is scheduled for Charlotte, N.C., with Chicago on deck in 2020 and Indianapolis in 2021.
Sacramento has never hosted NBA All-Star festivities despite being home to a franchise since 1985. One potential drawback to bringing such a large-scale event to the relatively small California capital is a shortage of four- and five-star hotel rooms.
"Sacramento and the surrounding communities provide enormous opportunities," Silver said at his All-Star news conference on Saturday in Los Angeles, according to the Sacramento Bee's Ailene Voisin. "Wine country, great golf, great scenery, all kinds of wonderful things. But at the end of the day, we have to have a sufficient number of rooms."
The Kings' new home, the Golden 1 Center, opened last season.
