Tiebreakers finalized for 2018 NBA Draft lottery order
The NBA held a tiebreaker Friday to determine the official draft positions of teams with the same record for the 2018 NBA Draft.
The first tiebreaker decided the order for teams that finished with a 48-34 record:
- 20th - Oklahoma City Thunder (pick owned by Minnesota Timberwolves)
- 21st - Utah Jazz
- 22nd - New Orleans Pelicans (pick owned by Chicago Bulls)
- 23rd - Indiana Pacers
The second tiebreaker regarded teams that finished 47-35:
- 18th - San Antonio Spurs
- 19th - Timberwolves (owned by Atlanta Hawks)
The third tiebreaker split teams that ended 44-38:
- 16th - Miami Heat (owned by Phoenix Suns)
- 17th - Milwaukee Bucks*
*The Suns owned the Bucks' 2018 first-round pick if it fell 11-16. With the Bucks falling out of that range, Suns will now own their 2019 pick if they are within 4-16.
The fourth tiebreaker determined the order for teams at 27-55:
- 6th - Bulls*
- 7th - Sacramento Kings*
*Both teams will have a 5.3-percent chance to get the first overall pick but will draft in that position if no bottom-14 team with a better record wins the lottery.
The fifth tiebreaker decided the ranking for teams that finished 24-58:
- 3rd - Dallas Mavericks
- 4th - Hawks
*The Mavericks will receive one additional ping-pong ball because of the tiebreaker, improving their odds to 13.8 percent. Hawks will have a 13.7-percent chance to win the draft lottery.
