Bordeaux brings Menez back to France after striking deal with AC Milan

Mercurial midfielder Jeremy Menez will become a Bordeaux player Monday, pending a medical, after the Ligue 1 outfit announced Sunday it has reached an agreement with AC Milan to sign the 29-year-old Frenchman.

Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud confirmed Thursday that Menez was one of a number of players the club had been targeting this summer.

The former Paris Saint-Germain man is Bordeaux's fourth signing of the summer, and represents a significant coup for a team looking to improve on a mediocre 11th-place finish in the French top flight this past season.

The move also allows Milan to offload some €2.4 million in wages. Menez had one year remaining on his contract with the Rossoneri.

A back injury crippled his production last season. He made his first appearance of the campaign in February and managed just two goals in 10 Serie A matches.

The previous season was one of his most successful yet. He led Milan in league scoring with 16 goals, as novice manager Filippo Inzaghi relied on Menez during a rocky 2014-15 term.

Menez, who also played for AS Monaco and Sochaux, initially joined Milan on a free transfer from PSG. His last call-up to the French national team came in March 2013.
