Jeremy Menez finalised a move back to France on Monday, completing a medical and signing a three-year contract with Bordeaux.

The Frenchman arrived at the Nouveau Stade de Bordeaux on a free transfer after Les Girondins reached an agreement with AC Milan on the weekend, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

AC Milan no longer considered the player a starter after relying on him heavily in 2014-15, when Menez led the team in Serie A scoring with 16 goals.

He spent two seasons with the Rossoneri following a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in 2014.

Menez had just one year remaining on his contract with the Italian outfit, which will now save roughly €2.4 million in wages.

Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud confirmed Menez took a pay cut to make the transfer happen.

"I think this club suits me. I've already noticed that it's like family here," said Menez at his introductory press conference. "I've got everything I need to be happy here."

Manager Jocelyn Gourvennec said he would consider playing the 29-year-old as a striker, where he excelled under Filippo Inzaghi during his first year with Milan.

Menez is an ambitious signing for a club looking to improve on last season's 11th-place finish in Ligue 1. He joins Francois Kamano, Paul Bernardoni, and Jeremy Toulalan as summer recruits.

A debilitating back injury kept Menez on the sideline for the majority of the 2015-16 campaign, and Milan moved on without him. Questions about his behaviour also fuelled rumours of an exit. He reportedly refused to warm up for a March contest against Lazio, and, even though he eventually emerged from the substitutes' bench, Menez left a bad impression.

But the player said Monday he will give his best once he's comfortable with himself again.

"My ambitions? To take pleasure on the pitch. If I'm happy, the rest will come naturally," he said.

The former France international previously represented French outfits PSG, AS Monaco, and Sochaux.
