Watch: Donnarumma whiffs on back pass to concede own goal
AC Milan prodigy Gianluigi Donnarumma made one of the biggest mistakes of his young career Sunday, as he misjudged a back pass from Gabriel Paletta to gift lowly Pescara an early goal.
Donnarumma, 18, has routinely saved his Rossoneri teammates on a weekly basis, producing spectacular diving saves to keep matches alive.
But this time, it was the young goalkeeper who was at fault. Under pressure from Pescara forward Gianluca Caprari, Paletta turned and delivered what was, upon review, a difficult ball to handle. Unfortunately for the Milan shot-stopper, it slipped under his left foot and rolled into the yawning net.
Mario Pasalic scored a crucial equaliser for Milan before half-time, although it was only enough to secure a disappointing 1-1 draw against the worst team in Serie A.
With eight matches remaining, Vincenzo Montella's side now trails a guaranteed Europa League spot by four points.
