AC Milan completes 6th summer coup as Calhanoglu joins from Leverkusen

Another week, another signing by AC Milan.

Following his much-ballyhooed arrival in the fashion capital, innovative midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu officially joined the Rossoneri's renaissance on Monday from Bayer Leverkusen.

Milan completed the deal for a reported €20 million plus bonuses, while the player signed a four-year contract until June 2021.

Calhanoglu is Milan's sixth signing of a busy summer window, following the arrivals of Mateo Musacchio, Franck Kessie, Ricardo Rodriguez, Andre Silva, and Fabio Borini.

And business may still be open. Various reports from the Italian media suggest negotiations for Atalanta right-back Andrea Conti have reached an advanced stage.

During the past four Bundesliga seasons, including one at Hamburg, Calhanoglu developed a reputation as one of European football's dead-ball specialists. No one in the top-five leagues has scored more free-kick goals than the Turkish international since the start of the 2013-14 campaign.

He could only produce six goals and five assists last term because FIFA forced him to serve a four-month ban in February for a breach of contract.

Prior to the suspension, both Chelsea and Tottenham were linked to the player.

Nothing came of those rumours.

FIFA's ruling did not seem to affect Milan's view of Calhanoglu, either.

The resurgent Italian side, bankrolled by new Chinese investors, has now committed more than €100 million to new signings.

Calhanoglu made 111 league appearances in the Bundesliga, the majority with Leverkusen.
