Juventus is negotiating to bring Manchester United full-back Matteo Darmian back to Italy, sources told ESPN FC's Rob Dawson.

The seven-time defending Serie A champion is reportedly still short of United's asking price, which is somewhere around the £12.7 million that club spent to acquire Darmian from Torino three years ago.

The 28-year-old is apparently open to leaving United after a season spent largely on the periphery of manager Jose Mourinho's plans. Despite his ability to play on both flanks, Darmian made just 11 starts across four competitions during the 2017-18 campaign.

Juventus would use Darmian to fill a glaring need at the right-back position. Longtime servant Stephan Lichtsteiner is leaving the club at the end of his contract later this month, and Mattia De Sciglio has yet to show he is a deserving starter on a week-to-week basis.

A product of AC Milan's academy, Darmian spent a season at Palermo before rising to prominence at Torino. He accepted a move to United in 2015 when Louis van Gaal was in charge.

He is known for his versatility, defensive awareness, and smooth passing. Usually deployed as part of a back-four, Darmian can also play farther up the pitch as a wing-back.
