Report: AC Milan confident of re-signing Ibrahimovic to 1-year contract
AC Milan are inching closer to an agreement with Zlatan Ibrahimovic over a new one-year contract, according to The Guardian's Fabrizio Romano.
Ibrahimovic reportedly signaled his intention to stay and compete in Serie A again, giving the club confidence the deal will be completed.
The 38-year-old rejoined the Rossoneri in January on a short-term deal and led them to sixth in the Serie A table. With 11 goals and five assists in 20 appearances, Ibrahimovic showed he's still capable of producing at the highest level.
But his future at the club wasn't always clear. There were rumors that Ibrahimovic wanted to end his career at Hammarby, the club he partially owns in Sweden. During the coronavirus lockdown, Ibrahimovic trained with Hammarby and took part in scrimmages.
Upon returning to Milanello, the Rossoneri's base just north of Milan, Ibrahimovic reportedly confronted CEO Ivan Gazidis about the executive's recent absence from the team and the lack of certainty about the club's future. Reports at the time indicated that former RB Leipzig manager and director Ralf Rangnick was about to lead a revolution at Milan.
Clarity arrived toward the end of the season when Rangnick pulled out of negotiations.
Ibrahimovic became the oldest player to score 10 or more goals in a single Serie A campaign. He's also the first player to score 50 or more goals with both Milan and Inter Milan.
